Caliber: Internal diameter of gun's barrel bore. Most common are .22 (aka Rimfire) and 9mm (aka Centerfire).
Long gun: Any rifle
Pistol: Any handgun
Iron sights: Any sight that is not magnifying or electrical in nature.
Most guns come with standard metal sights, located at ~each end of the barrel.
"Fiber-optic" sights are also considered Iron Sights. Fiber optic sights employ small rods that collect ambient light and emit it toward the shooter's eye, usually in contrasting fluorescent colors.
Optic sights: These sights have magnification and/or a powered LED.
Scope: These are magnifying devices with crosshairs or red/green dot in the middle of the view indicating the point of impact on the target. Scopes are used for long-distance shooting and are not used in any Greenville Hurricanes Marksmanship training or competition.
Reflector/Reflex/Red Dot: These sights are usually not magnifying but they employ an LED and specially curved glass that places a small red dot in the shooter's view of the target at the point of impact.
Match: Organized marksmanship competition. There is a fee for each match to cover costs of administration and/or facilities.
Match Pass: Token card for prepaid match fee.
Match Vocabulary:
Bay: Area where shooting takes place. Bays can be found at indoor and outdoor ranges.
Berm: An embankment used between shooting ranges to divide them, or positioned to restrict bullets to a specific area.
180° (never break 180°): When a shooter is at the range with an uncased gun, they must never point their gun farther than 180 degrees whether it's from left to right, or up and down.

Squad: A group of four athletes shooting in the same gun division who's match scores are added together. Squads are usually organized by the head coach.
